Privacy Policy

English Words by Level is an offline-first vocabulary-learning app. Your learning progress stays on your device. The app asks for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before allowing Google Analytics for Firebase to collect product-usage and device information.

Information We Collect

If you select Allow in Apple's tracking-permission prompt, Firebase Analytics may receive:

• Product interactions, such as completed onboarding steps, screens viewed, learning actions, check results, and feature use.
• App and device information, such as app version, operating-system version, device category, language, and approximate region.
• A randomly generated app-instance identifier used to distinguish app installations and calculate sessions and retention.

Learning events use internal word identifiers rather than the text you enter or any account identity. We do not ask you to create an account or sign in.

Information Stored on Your Device

To make the app work, the following is saved locally on your device using the operating system's standard on-device storage:

• Your chosen CEFR level and app settings (such as theme and daily goal).
• Your learning progress, including which words you have seen, marked as known, or are still learning, and review scheduling.
• Your streak and daily‑goal progress.
• Local reminder preferences, if you enable reminders.

This local data is removed when you delete the app. Learning progress is not uploaded to our servers.

Information We Do Not Collect

• No names, email addresses, or contact information.
• No precise GPS or other precise location data.
• No access to your camera, photos, contacts, or microphone.
• No advertising identifier is sent to Firebase Analytics and no advertising profile is created.
• No word-answer text, free-form text, or learning-history database is sent to Firebase Analytics.

Device Permissions

The app may request the following system permissions:

• Tracking: Apple displays its App Tracking Transparency prompt before Firebase Analytics can collect data. If you decline, analytics collection remains disabled.
• Notifications: only if you enable reminders, to schedule local study reminders. These are generated on your device; no notification data is sent to us.
• Audio: to play pronunciation and text‑to‑speech through your device's built‑in speech features.

Google Analytics for Firebase

Google processes the permitted analytics data described above on our behalf. We use it to measure retention, onboarding and learning funnels, and feature usage. The app's Firebase Analytics integration is built without advertising-ID support. Advertising storage, advertising user data, and advertising personalization are disabled.

Your Analytics Choice

Firebase Analytics collection is disabled before Apple presents the tracking-permission prompt. It is enabled only if you select Allow. If you select Ask App Not to Track, no analytics events are sent. You can change the system permission later in iOS Settings. Your choice does not affect the learning experience.

Data Retention & Deletion

Local learning data remains on your device until you delete the app. Google retains analytics data according to the retention settings of our Google Analytics property. Analytics reports are aggregated and are not connected to a name, email address, or app account.

Children's Privacy

The app is not designed to collect names, contact details, or account information from children. Firebase Analytics is configured the same way for all users and remains disabled unless Apple reports that tracking permission was granted.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
